Granddaddy Hired Van Gogh!

Photo from "Tumult on the Mountains"
Do you see Vincent Van Gogh in this picture of loggers in West Virginia. Granddad Darnell is sitting down on the job in the front row.
Here is Granddad James Darnell (left) getting very affectionate with one of his fellow loggers, knee to knee. Granddad was famous for his Shakespearean tales of the feuding Hatfields and the McCoys. One wonders, since one of the tales is almost identical to Romeo and Juliet, if he didn't actually make most of it up. The New York newspapers got wind of it and sent a reporter and the Darnell story got national coverage making the West Virginia story famous. As for grandpa's love interest; I saw him in a later photo at the Hearst Castle in California with a few movie stars. Granddad retired to Mississippi where they started a dairy farm.
